To firmly clamp heavy work pieces with weight of tens of tons, the boring mill jaws equipped with the heavy-duty horizontal lathe must exert high clamping forces onto the work pieces to prevent them from slipping over the jaws serrated clamping surface when taking large cutting forces with deep cutting into workpieces. Slippage of workpieces over the jaws serrated clamping face due to inadequate clamping forces, once occurs, will damage the workpieces or the cutters, and the damage will be especially serious if the contour of section of workpieces being clamped is irregular. To ensure the boring mill jaws to generate clamping forces high enough to firmly clamp the workpieces, high torque must be exerted on the driving screw rod in the jaw base. We can furnish the jaw bases with gears-set following leverprinciple to magnify by five times the operator phyical force on the driving handle for the jaws. In this way, the operator can use a much shorter and lighter driving handle, 700-900mm in length, to drive the screwing rod in the jaw base with only about 24KGf hand-force to firmly clamp the heavy workpieces. Above mentioned driving torque magnifying device is very useful in actual clamping job beside the heavy duty horizontal lathe, especially when the operating space is limited.
